Add support for proposed DS digest types that encode the private
algorithm identifier at the start of the DS digest as is done for
DNSKEY and RRSIG. This allows a DS record to identify the specific
DNSSEC algorithm, rather than a set of algorithms, when the algorithm
field is set to PRIVATEDNS or PRIVATEOID.
DST algorithm and DNSSEC algorithm values are not necessarily the same
anymore: if the DNSSEC algorithm value is PRIVATEOID or PRIVATEDNS, then
the DST algorithm will be mapped to something else. The conversion is
now done correctly where necessary.
replace the pattern `for (result = dns_rdataset_first(x); result ==
ISC_R_SUCCES; result = dns_rdataset_next(x)` with a new
`DNS_RDATASET_FOREACH` macro throughout BIND.
previously, ISC_LIST_FOREACH and ISC_LIST_FOREACH_SAFE were
two separate macros, with the _SAFE version allowing entries
to be unlinked during the loop. ISC_LIST_FOREACH is now also
safe, and the separate _SAFE macro has been removed.
similarly, the ISC_LIST_FOREACH_REV macro is now safe, and
ISC_LIST_FOREACH_REV_SAFE has also been removed.
The `max-rsa-exponent-size` could limit the exponents of the RSA
public keys during the DNSSEC verification. Instead of providing
a cryptic (not cryptographic) knob, hardcode the max exponent to
be 4096 (the theoretical maximum for DNSSEC).
The DST API has been cleaned up, duplicate functions has been squashed
into single call (verify and verify2 functions), and couple of unused
functions have been completely removed (createctx2, computesecret,
paramcompare, and cleanup).
use the ISC_LIST_FOREACH pattern in places where lists had
been iterated using a different pattern from the typical
`for` loop: for example, `while (!ISC_LIST_EMPTY(...))` or
`while ((e = ISC_LIST_HEAD(...)) != NULL)`.
the pattern `for (x = ISC_LIST_HEAD(...); x != NULL; ISC_LIST_NEXT(...)`
has been changed to `ISC_LIST_FOREACH` throughout BIND, except in a few
cases where the change would be excessively complex.
in most cases this was a straightforward change. in some places,
however, the list element variable was referenced after the loop
ended, and the code was refactored to avoid this necessity.
also, because `ISC_LIST_FOREACH` uses typeof(list.head) to declare
the list elements, compilation failures can occur if the list object
has a `const` qualifier. some `const` qualifiers have been removed
from function parameters to avoid this problem, and where that was not
possible, `UNCONST` was used.
All DNSKEY keys are able to authenticate. The DNS_KEYTYPE_NOAUTH
(and DNS_KEYTYPE_NOCONF) flags were defined for the KEY rdata type,
and are not applicable to DNSKEY.
Previously, because the DNSKEY implementation was built on top of
KEY, the NOAUTH flag prevented authentication in DNSKEYs as well.
This has been corrected.
dns_zonekey_iszonekey() was the only function defined in the
dns_zonekey module, and was only called from one place. it
makes more sense to group this with dns_dnssec functions.
when a key is revoked its key ID changes, due to the inclusion
of the "revoke" flag. a collision between this changed key ID and
that of an unrelated public-only key could cause a crash in
dnssec-signzone.
the target buffer passed to dns_name_concatenate() was never
used (except for one place in dig, where it wasn't actually
needed, and has already been removed in a prior commit).
we can safely remove the parameter.
There was just a single use of passing an extra buffer to
dns_name_downcase() which have been replaced by simple call to
isc_ascii_lowercase() and the 'target' argument from dns_name_downcase()
function has been removed.
Track inside the dns_dnsseckey structure whether we have seen the
private key, or if this key only has a public key file.
If the key only has a public key file, or a DNSKEY reference in the
zone, mark the key 'pubkey'. In dnssec-signzone, if the key only
has a public key available, consider the key to be offline. Any
signatures that should be refreshed for which the key is not available,
retain the signature.
So in the code, 'expired' becomes 'refresh', and the new 'expired'
is only used to determine whether we need to keep the signature if
the corresponding key is not available (retaining the signature if
it is not expired).
In the 'keysthatsigned' function, we can remove:
- key->force_publish = false;
- key->force_sign = false;
because they are redundant ('dns_dnsseckey_create' already sets these
values to false).
Remove the complicated mechanism that could be (in theory) used by
external libraries to register new categories and modules with
statically defined lists in <isc/log.h>. This is similar to what we
have done for <isc/result.h> result codes. All the libraries are now
internal to BIND 9, so we don't need to provide a mechanism to register
extra categories and modules.
dns_difftuple_create() could only return success, so change
its type to void and clean up all the calls to it.
other functions that only returned a result value because of it
have been cleaned up in the same way.
Add a default key-directory parameter to the function that can
be returned if there is no keystore, or if the keystore directory
is NULL (the latter is also true for the built-in keystore).
Move dns_dnssec_findzonekeys from the dnssec.{c,h} source code to
zone.{c,h} (the header file already commented that this should be done
inside dns_zone_t).
Alter the function in such a way, that keys are searched for in the
key stores if a 'dnssec-policy' (kasp) is attached to the zone,
otherwise keep using the zone's key-directory.
Refactor dns_dnssec_findmatchingkeys and dns_dnssec_keylistfromrdataset
to take into account the key store directories in case the zone is using
dnssec-policy (kasp). Add 'kasp' and 'keystores' parameters.
This requires the keystorelist to be stored inside the zone structure.
The calls to these functions in the DNSSEC tools can use NULL as the
kasp value, as dnssec-signzone does not (yet) support dnssec-policy,
and key collision is checked inside the directory where it is created.
The "dns_dnssec_findzonekeys2" log message is a leftover from when that
was the name of the function. Rename to match the current name of the
function.
This is a simple replacement using the semantic patch from the previous
commit and as added bonus, one removal of previously undetected unused
variable in named/server.c.
Completely remove the TKEY Mode 2 (Diffie-Hellman Exchanged Keying) from
BIND 9 (from named, named.conf and all the tools). The TKEY usage is
fringe at best and in all known cases, GSSAPI is being used as it should.
The draft-eastlake-dnsop-rfc2930bis-tkey specifies that:
4.2 Diffie-Hellman Exchanged Keying (Deprecated)
The use of this mode (#2) is NOT RECOMMENDED for the following two
reasons but the specification is still included in Appendix A in case
an implementation is needed for compatibility with old TKEY
implementations. See Section 4.6 on ECDH Exchanged Keying.
The mixing function used does not meet current cryptographic
standards because it uses MD5 [RFC6151].
RSA keys must be excessively long to achieve levels of security
required by current standards.
We might optionally implement Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) key
exchange mode 6 if the draft ever reaches the RFC status. Meanwhile the
insecure DH mode needs to be removed.
Now that we can configure a different digest type, update the code
to honor the configuration. Update 'dns_dnssec_syncupdate' so that
the correct CDS record is published, and also when deleting CDS records,
ensure that all possible CDS records are removed from the zone.
When fuzzing it is useful for all signing operations to happen
at a specific time for reproducability. Add two variables to
the message structure (fuzzing and fuzztime) to specify if a
fixed time should be used and the value of that time.
Clean up dns_rdatalist_tordataset() and dns_rdatalist_fromrdataset()
functions by making them return void, because they cannot fail.
Clean up other functions that subsequently cannot fail.
The dns_message_gettempname(), dns_message_gettemprdata(),
dns_message_gettemprdataset(), and dns_message_gettemprdatalist() always
succeeds because the memory allocation cannot fail now. Change the API
to return void and cleanup all the use of aforementioned functions.
Update the function that synchronizes the CDS and CDNSKEY DELETE
records. It now allows for the possibility that the CDS DELETE record
is published and the CDNSKEY DELETE record is not, and vice versa.
Also update the code in zone.c how 'dns_dnssec_syncdelete()' is called.
With KASP, we still maintain the DELETE records our self. Otherwise,
we publish the CDS and CDNSKEY DELETE record only if they are added
to the zone. We do still check if these records can be signed by a KSK.
This change will allow users to add a CDS and/or CDNSKEY DELETE record
manually, without BIND removing them on the next zone sign.
Note that this commit removes the check whether the key is a KSK, this
check is redundant because this check is also made in
'dst_key_is_signing()' when the role is set to DST_BOOL_KSK.
Historically, the inline keyword was a strong suggestion to the compiler
that it should inline the function marked inline. As compilers became
better at optimising, this functionality has receded, and using inline
as a suggestion to inline a function is obsolete. The compiler will
happily ignore it and inline something else entirely if it finds that's
a better optimisation.
Therefore, remove all the occurences of the inline keyword with static
functions inside single compilation unit and leave the decision whether
to inline a function or not entirely on the compiler
NOTE: We keep the usage the inline keyword when the purpose is to change
the linkage behaviour.
Gcc 7+ and Clang 10+ have implemented __attribute__((fallthrough)) which
is explicit version of the /* FALLTHROUGH */ comment we are currently
using.
Add and apply FALLTHROUGH macro that uses the attribute if available,
but does nothing on older compilers.
In one case (lib/dns/zone.c), using the macro revealed that we were
using the /* FALLTHROUGH */ comment in wrong place, remove that comment.
This commit converts the license handling to adhere to the REUSE
specification. It specifically:
1. Adds used licnses to LICENSES/ directory
2. Add "isc" template for adding the copyright boilerplate
3. Changes all source files to include copyright and SPDX license
header, this includes all the C sources, documentation, zone files,
configuration files. There are notes in the doc/dev/copyrights file
on how to add correct headers to the new files.
4. Handle the rest that can't be modified via .reuse/dep5 file. The
binary (or otherwise unmodifiable) files could have license places
next to them in <foo>.license file, but this would lead to cluttered
repository and most of the files handled in the .reuse/dep5 file are
system test files.
