When running the isc_quota unit test with less than usual amount of
RAM (e.g. in a CI for architectures with 32 bits of address space),
the pthread_create() function fails with the "Resource temporarily
unavailable (11):" error code.
Add functions to get and set the thread stack size (if requested),
and use these to set the thread stack size to smaller value in the
isc_quota unit test.
The OpenBSD doesn't have sysctlbyname(), but sysctl() can be used to
read the number of online/available CPUs by reading following MIB(s):
[CTL_HW, HW_NCPUONLINE] with fallback to [CTL_HW, HW_NCPU].
Cleanup various checks and cleanups that are available on the all
platforms like sysctlbyname() and various related <sys/*.h> headers
that are either defined in POSIX or available on Linux and all BSDs.
Instead of cooking up our own code for getting the number of available
CPUs for named to use, make use of uv_available_parallelism() from
libuv >= 1.44.0.
Administrators may wish to constrain the set of cores that BIND 9 runs
on via the 'taskset', 'cpuset' or 'numactl' programs (or equivalent on
other O/S), for example to achieve higher (or more stable) performance
by more closely associating threads with individual NIC rx queues. If
the admin has used taskset, it follows that BIND ought to
automatically use the given number of CPUs rather than the system wide
count.

As it's impossible to get the current umask without modifying it at the
same time, initialize the current umask at the program start and keep
the loaded value internally. Add isc_os_umask() function to access the
starttime umask.
Historically, the inline keyword was a strong suggestion to the compiler
that it should inline the function marked inline. As compilers became
better at optimising, this functionality has receded, and using inline
as a suggestion to inline a function is obsolete. The compiler will
happily ignore it and inline something else entirely if it finds that's
a better optimisation.
Therefore, remove all the occurences of the inline keyword with static
functions inside single compilation unit and leave the decision whether
to inline a function or not entirely on the compiler
NOTE: We keep the usage the inline keyword when the purpose is to change
the linkage behaviour.
IBM power architecture has L1 cache line size equal to 128. Take
advantage of that on that architecture, do not force more common value
of 64. When it is possible to detect higher value, use that value
instead. Keep the default to be 64.
On some systems, the glibc can return 0 instead of cache-line size to
indicate the cache line sizes cannot be determined. This is comment
from glibc source code:
/* In general we cannot determine these values. Therefore we
return zero which indicates that no information is
available. */
As the goal of the check is to determine whether the L1 cache line size
is still 64 and we would use this value in case the sysconf() call is
not available, we can also ignore the invalid values returned by the
sysconf() call.
This commit converts the license handling to adhere to the REUSE
specification. It specifically:
1. Adds used licnses to LICENSES/ directory
2. Add "isc" template for adding the copyright boilerplate
3. Changes all source files to include copyright and SPDX license
header, this includes all the C sources, documentation, zone files,
configuration files. There are notes in the doc/dev/copyrights file
on how to add correct headers to the new files.
4. Handle the rest that can't be modified via .reuse/dep5 file. The
binary (or otherwise unmodifiable) files could have license places
next to them in <foo>.license file, but this would lead to cluttered
repository and most of the files handled in the .reuse/dep5 file are
system test files.
Add library ctor and dtor for isc_os compilation unit which initializes
the numbers of the CPUs and also checks whether L1 cacheline size is
really 64 if the sysconf() call is available.
It was discovered that on some platforms (f.e. Alpine Linux with MUSL)
the result of isc_os_ncpus() call differ when called before and after we
drop privileges. This commit changes the isc_os_ncpus() call to cache
the result from the first call and thus always return the same value
during the runtime of the named. The first call to isc_os_ncpus() is
made as soon as possible on the library initalization.
The Windows support has been completely removed from the source tree
and BIND 9 now no longer supports native compilation on Windows.
We might consider reviewing mingw-w64 port if contributed by external
party, but no development efforts will be put into making BIND 9 compile
and run on Windows again.
