When OPTOUT was in use we didn't ensure that NSEC3 records
for orphaned empty-non-terminals where removed. Check if
there are orphaned empty-non-terminal NSEC3 even if there
wasn't an NSEC3 RRset to be removed in dns_nsec3_delnsec3.
There is one case in 'dns_nsec3_activex()' where it returns but forgets
to detach the db node. Add the missing 'dns_db_detachnode()' call.
This case only triggers if 'sig-signing-type' (privatetype) is set to 0
(which by default is not), or if the function is called with 'complete'
is set to 'true' (which at this moment do not exist).
It's wasteful to use 20 bytes and a pointer indirection to represent
two bits of information, so turn the struct into an enum. And change
the names of the enumeration constants to make the intent more clear.
This change introduces some inline functions into another header,
which confuses `gcovr` when it is trying to collect code coverage
statistics. So, in the CI job, copy more header files into a directory
where `gcovr` looks for them.
There was a proposal in the late 1990s that it might, but it turned
out to be unworkable. See RFC 6891, Extension Mechanisms for
DNS (EDNS(0)), section 5, Extended Label Types.
The remnants of the code that supported this in BIND are redundant.
This commit converts the license handling to adhere to the REUSE
specification. It specifically:
1. Adds used licnses to LICENSES/ directory
2. Add "isc" template for adding the copyright boilerplate
3. Changes all source files to include copyright and SPDX license
header, this includes all the C sources, documentation, zone files,
configuration files. There are notes in the doc/dev/copyrights file
on how to add correct headers to the new files.
4. Handle the rest that can't be modified via .reuse/dep5 file. The
binary (or otherwise unmodifiable) files could have license places
next to them in <foo>.license file, but this would lead to cluttered
repository and most of the files handled in the .reuse/dep5 file are
system test files.
Remove the dynamic registration of result codes. Convert isc_result_t
from unsigned + #defines into 32-bit enum type in grand unified
<isc/result.h> header. Keep the existing values of the result codes
even at the expense of the description and identifier tables being
unnecessary large.
Additionally, add couple of:
switch (result) {

default:
break;
}
statements where compiler now complains about missing enum values in the
switch statement.
When generating a new salt, compare it with the previous NSEC3
paremeters to ensure the new parameters are different from the
previous ones.
This moves the salt generation call from 'bin/named/*.s' to
'lib/dns/zone.c'. When setting new NSEC3 parameters, you can set a new
function parameter 'resalt' to enforce a new salt to be generated. A
new salt will also be generated if 'salt' is set to NULL.
Logging salt with zone context can now be done with 'dnssec_log',
removing the need for 'dns_nsec3_log_salt'.
This commit add RUNTIME_CHECK() around all simple dns_name_copy() calls where
the third argument is NULL using the semantic patch from the previous commit.
dnssec-signzone should sign a zonefile that contains a DNSKEY record
with an unsupported algorithm. Current behavior is that it will
fail, hitting a fatal error. The fix detects unsupported algorithms
and will not try to add it to the keylist.
Also when determining the maximum iterations for NSEC3, don't take
into account DNSKEY records in the zonefile with an unsupported
algorithm.
Replace dns_fixedname_init() calls followed by dns_fixedname_name()
calls with calls to dns_fixedname_initname() where it is possible
without affecting current behavior and/or performance.
This patch was mostly prepared using Coccinelle and the following
semantic patch:

The resulting set of changes was then manually reviewed to exclude false
positives and apply minor tweaks.
It is likely that more occurrences of this pattern can be refactored in
an identical way. This commit only takes care of the low-hanging fruit.
