39cc5c4ade Use initializers for struct ofputil_flow_mod instead of assignments.
A few bugs have been fixed lately that were related to struct
ofputil_flow_mod not being fully initialized in a few places.  This commit
changes several pieces of code from using individual assignments to fields
in struct ofputil_flow_mod, to using whole initializers or assignments to
a whole struct.  This should help prevent similar problems in the future.

4e548ad9e6 geneve-map-rename: rename geneve-map to tlv-map.
This patch renames the command name related with geneve-map to a more
generic name as following:
add-geneve-map -> add-tlv-map
del-geneve-map -> del-tlv-map
dump-geneve-map -> dump-tlv-map

It also renames the Geneve_table to tlv_table.

By doing this renaming, the NSH variable context header (the same TLV
format as Geneve) or other protocol can reuse the field tun_metadata<N>
in the future.

de7d3c0761 Implement Openflow 1.4 Vacancy Events for OFPT_TABLE_MOD.
OpenFlow 1.4 introduces the ability to turn on vacancy events with an
OFPT_TABLE_MOD message specifying OFPTC_VACANCY_EVENTS. This commit adds
support for the new feature in ovs-ofctl mod-table.
As per the openflow specification-1.4, vacancy event adds a mechanism
enabling the controller to get an early warning based on capacity
threshold chosen by the controller.

With this commit, vacancy events can be configured as:
ovs-ofctl -O OpenFlow14 mod-table <bridge> <table> vacancy:<low,high>
<low,high> specify vacancy threshold values in percentage for vacancy_down
and vacancy_up respectively.

To disable vacancy events, following command should be given:
ovs-ofctl -O OpenFlow14 mod-table <bridge> <table> novacancy

5f8c05ad9d ovs-ofctl: Fix OpenFlow versions with '--bundle'
While the presence of the '--bundle' option implicitly added the
OpenFlow 1.4 to the allowed protocols, it failed to remove OpenFlow
1.0 from the allowed protocols.  This is changed so that '--bundle'
option now also implicitly removes versions lesser than 1.4 from the
allowed protocols.  This has no behavioral difference when ovs-ofctl
is paired with OVS that supports OpenFlow 1.4, as the greatest common
version is negotiated, but prevents negotiation of OpenFlow 1.0 when
OVS does not support OpenFlow 1.4.

Found by inspection.

4b69263d2a ovs-ofctl: Fix replace-flows.
The replace-flows test cases tested for incorrect
behavior due to the missing initialization of the out_group member of
struct ofputil_flow_stats_request.  This patch fixes this by properly
initializing out_group to OFPG_ANY.

Note that replace-flows still does not support multiple tables, but
that will be fixed in a later patch in the series.

74ff3298c8 userspace: Define and use struct eth_addr.
Define struct eth_addr and use it instead of a uint8_t array for all
ethernet addresses in OVS userspace.  The struct is always the right
size, and it can be assigned without an explicit memcpy, which makes
code more readable.

"struct eth_addr" is a good type name for this as many utility
functions are already named accordingly.

struct eth_addr can be accessed as bytes as well as ovs_be16's, which
makes the struct 16-bit aligned.  All use seems to be 16-bit aligned,
so some algorithms on the ethernet addresses can be made a bit more
efficient making use of this fact.

As the struct fits into a register (in 64-bit systems) we pass it by
value when possible.

This patch also changes the few uses of Linux specific ETH_ALEN to
OVS's own ETH_ADDR_LEN, and removes the OFP_ETH_ALEN, as it is no
longer needed.

This work stemmed from a desire to make all struct flow members
assignable for unrelated exploration purposes.  However, I think this
might be a nice code readability improvement by itself.

8811fc0ae1 ofp-print: Abbreviate duplicated table features.
I spent some time recently looking at the results of "ovs-ofctl
dump-table-features".  It was really distressing because of the volume of
information.  Every table yielded well over 100 lines of output and for 253
(visible) tables that meant over 25,300 lines of output total, which is
basically unusable.

This commit cuts the volume of output greatly by eliminating most of the
duplication from one table to the next.  The command now prints the full
output only for table 0, and for each subsequent table prints only the
parts that differ.  That reduces the output volume for tables after the
first to only 9 lines each (one of which is blank), for a total of more
like 2,400 lines, which is still not short but reasonably manageable.

bd53aa1723 classifier: Make versioning more explicit.
Now that struct cls_match has 'add_version' the 'version' in cls_match
was largely redundant.  Remove 'version' from struct cls_rule, and add
it to function prototypes that need it.  This makes versioning more
explicit (or less indirect) in the API.

82c22d34b5 Implement OpenFlow 1.4+ OFPTC_EVICTION.
OpenFlow 1.4 introduces the ability to turn on flow table eviction with an
OFPT_TABLE_MOD message specifying OFPTC_EVICTION.  It also adds related
machinery to other messages that mention OFPTC_* fields.  This commit adds
support for the new feature, implementing it as a second, parallel way to
enable flow table eviction.  It takes more work than it seems like it
should because there is so much weirdness with the treatment of OFPTC_*
flags over the evolution of OpenFlow; please refer to the explanation in
DESIGN.md for more information.

This commit also adds related support to ovs-ofctl, plus tests.

35303d715b tunnels: Don't initialize unnecessary packet metadata.
The addition of Geneve options to packet metadata significantly
expanded its size. It was reported that this can decrease performance
for DPDK ports by up to 25% since we need to initialize the whole
structure on each packet receive.

It is not really necessary to zero out the entire structure because
miniflow_extract() only copies the tunnel metadata when particular
fields indicate that it is valid. Therefore, as long as we zero out
these fields when the metadata is initialized and ensure that the
rest of the structure is correctly set in the presence of a tunnel,
we can avoid touching the tunnel fields on packet reception.

6159c531d0 openflow: Table maintenance commands for Geneve options.
In order to work with Geneve options, we need to maintain a mapping
table between an option (defined by <class, type, length>) and
an NXM field that can be operated on for the purposes of matches,
actions, etc. This mapping must be explicitly specified by the
user.

Conceptually, this table could be communicated using either OpenFlow
or OVSDB. Using OVSDB requires less code and definition of extensions
than OpenFlow but introduces the possibility that mapping table
updates and flow modifications are desynchronized from each other.
This is dangerous because the mapping table signifcantly impacts the
way that flows using Geneve options are installed and processed by
OVS. Therefore, the mapping table is maintained using OpenFlow commands
instead, which opens the possibility of using synchronization between
table changes and flow modifications through barriers, bundles, etc.

There are two primary groups of OpenFlow messages that are introduced
as Nicira extensions: modification commands (add, delete, clear mappings)
and table status request/reply to dump the current table along with switch
information.

Note that mappings should not be changed while they are in active use by
a flow. The result of doing so is undefined.

This only adds the OpenFlow infrastructure but doesn't actually
do anything with the information yet after the messages have been
decoded.

39c9459355 Use classifier versioning.
Each rule is now added or deleted in a specific tables version.  Flow
tables are versioned with a monotonically increasing 64-bit integer,
where positive values are valid version numbers.

Rule modifications are implemented as an insertion of a new rule and a
deletion of the old rule, both taking place in the same tables
version.  Since concurrent lookups may use different versions, both
the old and new rule must be available for lookups at the same time.

The ofproto provider interface is changed to accomodate the above.  As
rule's actions need not be modified any more, we no longer need
'rule_premodify_actions', nor 'rule_modify_actions'.  'rule_insert'
now takes a pointer to the old rule and adds a flag that tells whether
the old stats should be forwarded to the new rule or not (this
replaces the 'reset_counters' flag of the now removed
'rule_modify_actions').

Versioning all flow table changes has the side effect of making
learned flows visible for future lookups only.  I.e., the upcall that
executes the learn action, will not see the newly learned action in
it's classifier lookups.  Only upcalls that start executing after the
new flow was added will match on it.

2b7b1427c1 classifier: Support table versioning
This patch allows classifier rules to become visible and invisible in
specific versions.  A 'version' is defined as a positive monotonically
increasing integer, which never wraps around.

The new 'visibility' attribute replaces the prior 'to_be_removed' and
'visible' attributes.

When versioning is not used, the 'version' parameter should be passed
as 'CLS_MIN_VERSION' when creating rules, and 'CLS_MAX_VERSION' when
looking up flows.

This feature enables the support for atomic OpenFlow bundles without
significant performance penalty on 64-bit systems. There is a
performance decrease in 32-bit systems due to 64-bit atomics used.

db5076eee4 ovs-ofctl: Add bundle support and unit testing.
All existing ovs-ofctl flow mod commands now take an optional
'--bundle' argument, which executes the flow mods as a single
transaction.  OpenFlow 1.4+ is implicitly assumed when '--bundle' is
specified.

ovs-ofctl 'add-flow' and 'add-flows' commands now accept flow
specifications that start with an optional 'add', 'modify', 'delete',
'modify_strict', or 'delete_strict' keyword, so that arbitrary flow
table modifications may be specified.  For backwards compatibility, a
missing keyword is treated as an 'add'.  With the new '--bundle'
option all the modifications are executed as a single transaction
using an OpenFlow 1.4 bundle.

OpenFlow 1.4 requires bundles to support at least flow and port mods.
This implementation does not yet support port mods in bundles.

Another restriction is that the atomic transactions are not yet
supported.

1636c76112 command-line: add ovs_cmdl_context
I started working on a new command line utility that used this shared
code.  I wanted the ability to pass some data from common
initialization code to all of the commands.  You can find a similar
pattern in ovs-vsctl.

This patch updates the command handler to take a new struct,
ovs_cmdl_context, instead of argc and argv directly.  It includes argc
and argv, but also includes an opaque type (void *), where the user of
this API can attach its custom data it wants passed along to command
handlers.

This patch affected the ovstest sub-programs, as well.  The patch
includes a bit of an odd hack to OVSTEST_REGISTER() to avoid making
the main() function of the sub-programs take a ovs_cmdl_context.
The test main() functions still receive argc and argv directly, as
that seems more natural.  The test-subprograms themselves are able to
make use of a context internally, though.

5f38375100 command-line: add ovs_cmdl_ prefix
The coding style guidelines include the following:

  - Pick a unique name prefix (ending with an underscore) for each
    module, and apply that prefix to all of that module's externally
    visible names.  Names of macro parameters, struct and union members,
    and parameters in function prototypes are not considered externally
    visible for this purpose.

This patch adds the new prefix to the externally visible names.  This
makes it a bit more obvious what code is coming from common command
line handling code.

layers of OVS, Now we have introduced independent dp_packet
which can be used for datapath packet, we can simplify ofpbuf.

members.

cf62fa4c70 dp-packet: Remove ofpbuf dependency.
Currently dp-packet make use of ofpbuf for managing packet
buffers. That complicates ofpbuf, by making dp-packet
independent of ofpbuf both libraries can be optimized for
their own use case.
This avoids mapping operation between ofpbuf and dp_packet
in datapath upcalls.

802f84ffd7 classifier: Defer pvector publication.
This patch adds a new functions classifier_defer() and
classifier_publish(), which control when the classifier modifications
are made available to lookups.  By default, all modifications are made
available to lookups immediately.  Modifications made after a
classifier_defer() call MAY be 'deferred' for later 'publication'.  A
call to classifier_publish() will both publish any deferred
modifications, and cause subsequent changes to to be published
immediately.

Currently any deferring is limited to the visibility of the subtable
vector changes.  pvector now processes modifications mostly in a
working copy, which needs to be explicitly published with
pvector_publish().  pvector_publish() sorts the working copy and
removes gaps before publishing it.

This change helps avoiding O(n**2) memory behavior in corner cases,
where large number of rules with different masks are inserted or
deleted.

de4ad4a215 classifier: Lockless and robust classifier iteration.
Previously, accurate iteration required writers to be excluded during
iteration.  This patch adds an rculist to struct cls_subtable, and a
corresponding list node to struct cls_rule, which makes iteration more
straightforward, and allows the iterators to remain ignorant of the
internals of the cls_match.  This new list allows iteration of rules
in the classifier by traversing the RCU-friendly subtables vector, and
the rculist of rules in each subtable.

Classifier modifications may be performed concurrently, but whether or
not the concurrent iterator sees those changes depends on the timing
of change.  More specifically, an concurrent iterator:

- May or may not see a rule that is being inserted or removed.
- Will see either the new or the old version of a rule that is replaced.
- Will see all the other rules (that are not being modified).

Finally, The subtable's rculist also allows to make
classifier_rule_overlaps() lockless, which this patch also does.

ca26eb4437 Add support for OpenFlow 1.4+ "importance" values.
This patch enables a user to set importance for a new rule via add-flow
OF1.4+ in the OVS and display the same via dump-flows command OF1.4+.
The changes are made in accordance with OpenFlow 1.4 specs to implement
eviction on the basis of "importance".  This patch also enhances the
diff-flows & replace-flows CLI for addition of importance parameter in
a rule.

This doesn't actually implement eviction on the basis of importance, which
will happen in a later patch.

eb391b76af classifier: Change type used for priorities from 'unsigned int' to 'int'.
OpenFlow has priorities in the 16-bit unsigned range, from 0 to 65535.
In the classifier, it is sometimes useful to be able to have values below
and above this range.  With the 'unsigned int' type used for priorities
until now, there were no values below the range, so some code worked
around it by converting priorities to 64-bit signed integers.  This didn't
seem so great to me given that a plain 'int' also had the needed range.
This commit therefore changes the type used for priorities to int.

The interesting parts of this change are in pvector.h and classifier.c,
where one can see the elimination of the use of int64_t.

508a933809 nx-match: Add support for experimenter OXM.
OpenFlow 1.2+ defines a means for vendors to define vendor-specific OXM
fields, called "experimenter OXM".  These OXM fields are expressed with a
64-bit OXM header instead of the 32-bit header used for standard OXM (and
NXM).  Until now, OVS has not implemented experimenter OXM, and indeed we
have had little need to do so because of a pair of special 32-bit OXM classes
grandfathered to OVS as part of the OpenFlow 1.2 standardization process.

However, I want to prototype a feature for OpenFlow 1.5 that uses an
experimenter OXM as part of the prototype, so to do this OVS needs to
support experimenter OXM.  This commit adds that support.

Most of this commit is a fairly straightforward change: it extends the type
used for OXM/NXM from 32 to 64 bits and adds code to encode and decode the
longer headers when necessary.  Some other changes are necessary because
experimenter OXMs have a funny idea of the division between "header" and
"body": the extra 32 bits for experimenter OXMs are counted as part of the body
rather than the header according to the OpenFlow standard (even though this
does not entirely make sense), so arithmetic in various places has to be
adjusted, which is the reason for the new functions nxm_experimenter_len(),
nxm_payload_len(), and nxm_header_len().

Another change that calls for explanation is the new function mf_nxm_header()
that has been split from mf_oxm_header().  This function is used in actions
where the space for an NXM or OXM header is fixed so that there is no room
for a 64-bit experimenter type.  An upcoming commit will add new variations
of these actions that can support experimenter OXM.

Testing experimenter OXM is tricky because I do not know of any in
widespread use.  Two ONF proposals use experimenter OXMs: EXT-256 and
EXT-233.  EXT-256 is not suitable to implement for testing because its use
of experimenter OXM is wrong and will be changed.  EXT-233 is not suitable
to implement for testing because it requires adding a new field to struct
flow and I am not yet convinced that that field and the feature that it
supports is worth having in Open vSwitch.  Thus, this commit assigns an
experimenter OXM code point to an existing OVS field that is currently
restricted from use by controllers, "dp_hash", and uses that for testing.
Because controllers cannot use it, this leaves future versions of OVS free
to drop the support for the experimenter OXM for this field without causing
backward compatibility problems.

270f328621 compiler: Define NO_RETURN for MSVC.
To prevent warnings such as "Not all control paths return a value",
we should define NO_RETURN for MSVC.

Currently for gcc, we add NO_RETURN at the end of function declaration.
But for MSVC, "__declspec(noreturn)" is needed at the beginning of function
declaration. So this commit moves NO_RETURN to the beginning of the function
declaration as it works with gcc and clang too.

c2d936a44f ofp-actions: Centralize all OpenFlow action code for maintainability.
Until now, knowledge about OpenFlow has been somewhat scattered around the
tree.  Some of it is in ofp-actions, some of it is in ofp-util, some in
separate files for individual actions, and most of the wire format
declarations are in include/openflow.  This commit centralizes all of that
in ofp-actions.

Encoding and decoding OpenFlow actions was previously broken up by OpenFlow
version.  This was OK with only OpenFlow 1.0 and 1.1, but each additional
version added a new wrapper around the existing ones, which started to
become hard to understand.  This commit merges all of the processing for
the different versions, to the extent that they are similar, making the
version differences clearer.

Previously, ofp-actions contained OpenFlow encoding and decoding, plus
ofpact formatting, but OpenFlow parsing was separated into ofp-parse, which
seems an odd division.  This commit moves the parsing code into ofp-actions
with the rest of the code.

Before this commit, the four main bits of code associated with a particular
ofpact--OpenFlow encoding and decoding, ofpact formatting and parsing--were
all found far away from each other.  This often made it hard to see what
was going on for a particular ofpact, since you had to search around to
many different pieces of code.  This commit reorganizes so that all of the
code for a given ofpact is in a single place.

As a code refactoring, this commit has little visible behavioral change.
The update to ofproto-dpif.at illustrates one minor bug fix as a side
effect: a flow that was added with the action "dec_ttl" (a standard
OpenFlow action) was previously formatted as "dec_ttl(0)" (using a Nicira
extension to specifically direct packets bounced to the controller because
of too-low TTL), but after this commit it is correctly formatted as
"dec_ttl".

The other visible effect is to drop support for the Nicira extension
dec_ttl action in OpenFlow 1.1 and later in favor of the equivalent
standard action.  It seems unlikely that anyone was really using the
Nicira extension in OF1.1 or later.

8f2cded496 ofp-actions: Pretend that OpenFlow 1.0 has instructions.
This allows callers to be more uniform, because they don't have to pick
out whether they should parse actions or instructions based on the OpenFlow
version in use.  It also allows the Write-Metadata instruction emulation
in OpenFlow 1.0 to be treated just as in OpenFlow 1.1 in the sense that
it is allowed in contexts where instructions are allowed in OpenFlow 1.1
and not elsewhere.  (The changes in the tests reflect this more accurate
treatment.)

78c8df129c cmap, classifier: Avoid unsafe aliasing in iterators.
CMAP_FOR_EACH and CLS_FOR_EACH and their variants tried to use void ** as
a "pointer to any kind of pointer".  That is a violation of the aliasing
rules in ISO C which technically yields undefined behavior.  With GCC 4.1,
it causes both warnings and actual misbehavior.  One option would to add
-fno-strict-aliasing to the compiler flags, but that would only help with
GCC; who knows whether this can be worked around with other compilers.

Instead, this commit rewrites the iterators to avoid disallowed pointer
aliasing.

afae68b16f lib/classifier: Lockless lookups.
Now that all the relevant classifier structures use RCU and internal
mutual exclusion for modifications, we can remove the fat-rwlock and
thus make the classifier lookups lockless.

As the readers are operating concurrently with the writers, a
concurrent reader may or may not see a new rule being added by a
writer, depending on how the concurrent events overlap with each
other.  Overall, this is no different from the former locked behavior,
but there the visibility of the new rule only depended on the timing
of the locking functions.

A new rule is first added to the segment indices, so the readers may
find the rule in the indices before the rule is visible in the
subtables 'rules' map.  This may result in us losing the opportunity
to quit lookups earlier, resulting in sub-optimal wildcarding.  This
will be fixed by forthcoming revalidation always scheduled after flow
table changes.

Similar behavior may happen due to us removing the overlapping rule
(if any) from the indices only after the corresponding new rule has
been added.

The subtable's max priority is updated only after a rule is inserted
to the maps, so the concurrent readers may not see the rule, as the
updated priority ordered subtable list will only be visible after the
subtable's max priority is updated.

Similarly, the classifier's partitions are updated by the caller after
the rule is inserted to the maps, so the readers may keep skipping the
subtable until they see the updated partitions.
